Arriving at 1am or 3am is common at Dubai International (DXB), because many long haul flights from Europe, Asia and the Americas land overnight. The hard part is the ride to your hotel: the Dubai Metro is closed, very few buses run, and you are tired after a long flight. This guide compares every way to leave the airport at night, with official 2026 information on metro hours, night buses, taxi fares and pickup points at Terminals 1, 2 and 3. If you prefer a driver waiting for you, see our Dubai airport transfer service.
What Is the Best Way to Leave DXB After Midnight?
| Your situation | Best option | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Solo or couple, 1 or 2 bags | RTA airport taxi | Runs all night at every terminal, usually the cheapest door to door option |
| Family with kids, prams or heavy luggage | Taxi van or pre booked chauffeur | Space for bags, child seat on request when pre booked |
| Landing at Terminal 3, want a price first | Ride hailing app | Price shown before you book, indoor waiting lounge at T3 |
| Business traveller with an early meeting | Pre booked chauffeur | Driver waiting at a set time, invoice for your company |
| Wheelchair user | People of Determination taxi, pre booked | Accessible vehicle, booked through Dubai Taxi |
| Heading to International City or Al Rashidiya on a budget | N30 night bus | Cheapest, but slow and limited |
Is the Dubai Metro Open After Midnight?
No, on most nights. Dubai Airports lists Red Line operating hours from Terminals 1 and 3 as Monday to Thursday 5AM to midnight, Friday 5AM to 1AM the next day, Saturday 5AM to midnight, and Sunday 8AM to midnight.
| Day you land | Service ends | Service starts next |
|---|---|---|
| Monday to Thursday | Midnight | 5am |
| Friday | 1am (Saturday morning) | 5am |
| Saturday | Midnight | 8am (Sunday) |
| Sunday | Midnight | 5am |
Two things to know:
- These are station operating hours. The last train from the airport can leave a little before closing time, so do not plan to catch a train in the final 15 to 20 minutes. Check exact departures in the RTA S’hail app.
- The Saturday night gap: if you land after midnight on Saturday, the first Sunday train does not run until 8am.
Hours can be extended on public holidays and citywide celebrations, so check the RTA website before you fly.
Which Night Buses Serve Dubai Airport?
One night route serves DXB: the N30. RTA launched it from Dragon Mart 2 at International City to Dubai International Airport Terminal 2, via Rashidiya Metro Station. Current listings show it stopping at Terminal 2, Terminal 1 (External Parking) and Terminal 3, and running every 60 minutes from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM.
Before you rely on it: check the live timetable in the S’hail app, because launch reports gave different hours, and some airport stops have changed during temporary route changes. You also need a Nol card, as buses do not accept cash.
The N30 only helps if you are staying near International City, Dragon Mart or Al Rashidiya. There is no night bus from DXB to Downtown, Business Bay, Dubai Marina or the Palm.
Is It Safe to Take a Taxi From DXB at Night?
Yes. Official airport taxis are regulated by the RTA and work through the night.
- Use the official rank. Dubai Airports advises following signs to the official taxi rank at each terminal, and says the ranks run 24/7.
- Know the cars. Dubai Taxi vehicles are cream coloured, and taxis with a pink trim are driven by women, which many solo female travellers prefer at night.
- Decline offers inside the terminal. Anyone who approaches you offering a “taxi” or “cheap car” is not part of the official system.
- Keep your receipt. For a lost item, call the RTA on 8009090 or email ask@rta.ae.
How Much Does a Taxi From DXB Cost at Night?
The airport tariff does not change at night. The RTA fare page lists an all day starting fare of AED 20 for a normal taxi and AED 25 for a van. Dubai Taxi’s airport page lists AED 2.62 per km, adds Salik gates to the fare, and charges 50 fils per minute for waiting.
Salik at night: Dubai toll gates charge nothing from 1am to 6am, except during Ramadan, when the free window moves. Between midnight and 1am, the off peak rate of Dh4 per gate still applies.
Estimated taxi fares to popular Dubai destinations
| Destination from T3 | Approx. road distance | Basic estimate (car) | Basic estimate (van) | Salik |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Gold Souk, Deira | 9 km | About AED 44 | About AED 49 | Usually none |
| Downtown Dubai (Dubai Mall) | 14 km | About AED 57 | About AED 62 | Free after 1am |
| Business Bay | 15 km | About AED 59 | About AED 64 | Free after 1am |
| Al Barsha (Mall of the Emirates) | 28 km | About AED 94 | About AED 99 | Free after 1am |
| Dubai Marina / JBR | 34 km | About AED 109 | About AED 114 | Free after 1am |
| Atlantis, Palm Jumeirah | 36.5 km | About AED 116 | About AED 121 | Free after 1am |
How we calculated these: Starting fare (AED 20 car, AED 25 van) + approximate road km × AED 2.62, using route planner distances from Terminal 3. Included: starting fare and distance. Not included: waiting time in traffic, Salik before 1am (Dh4 per gate), and any change to the per km rate, which RTA links to monthly fuel prices. Your actual meter fare will differ.
Taxi vs Ride Hailing vs Private Chauffeur
Here is the same trip compared three ways: DXB Terminal 3 to Downtown Dubai at 2am, two passengers, two suitcases.
| RTA airport taxi | Ride hailing app | Private chauffeur | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Estimated cost | About AED 57 | Shown in the app, changes with demand | AED 200 fixed (Lexus ES300, our listed DXB rate) |
| Price type | Metered | Upfront quote | Fixed, agreed before you fly |
| Booking | None, walk to the rank | Book after landing | Book before you fly |
| Waiting time | Short at most times, longer when several flights land together | Depends on drivers nearby | Driver waits in arrivals |
| Luggage | About 2 large bags (van for more) | Depends on car type chosen | 2 bags (sedan) up to 12 bags (Sprinter) |
| Tolls | Added to the meter | Included in app quote | Included |
| Child seat | Not guaranteed at the rank | Not guaranteed | On request when you book |
| Best for | Solo or couple, light bags, value | Travellers who want to see the price first | Families, groups, business, guaranteed pickup |
The honest answer: For two people with two bags going to Downtown, the metered taxi is the cheapest option by a wide margin. A chauffeur is worth paying for when you need a large vehicle, a child seat, a guaranteed pickup, or a fixed price on a longer trip to the Marina or the Palm.
For app bookings of RTA taxis, night pricing applies from 10pm to 5:59am Monday to Thursday, with a Dh4.50 booking fee and a Dh5.50 flagfall. From Friday to Sunday, the same night rate runs from 12am to 5:59am.
How to Find Your Pickup Point at Each DXB Terminal
Step by step after landing at 2am
- Clear immigration and collect your bags. Have your hotel address ready.
- Exit into the arrivals hall. Decide here: rank, app or pre booked driver.
- For a taxi: follow the signs to the official taxi rank outside the arrivals exit.
- For a ride hailing app: at Terminal 3, the main pickup area is in the Car Pickup zone opposite the terminal, and the waiting lounge has its own marked door.
- For a pre booked driver: Pre-book your airport transfer with Private Chauffeur Dubai and benefit from flight tracking if your arrival is delayed. Confirm your pickup point and chauffeur details in advance for a smooth, hassle-free arrival.
- If you cannot find your driver: call or WhatsApp the number in your booking confirmation. Stay inside the arrivals hall rather than walking out to the road.
Terminal by terminal
| Terminal | Typical airlines | Night pickup tip |
|---|---|---|
| Terminal 1 | Most foreign airlines (Concourse D) | Taxi rank outside arrivals. Queues build when several long haul flights land together. |
| Terminal 2 | flydubai and regional carriers | Separate building with no metro at any hour. Taxis and the N30 bus stop here. |
| Terminal 3 | Emirates and partner airlines | Large taxi rank plus the ride hailing lounge in the Car Pickup zone. |
Use the official Dubai Airports maps to see each terminal’s layout before you fly. Not sure which airport you land at? Read DXB vs DWC first.
Travelling With Children, Heavy Luggage or Accessibility Needs
Children: UAE traffic law requires a car seat for children up to four, and the RTA instructed taxi franchise and limousine companies to make child seats available. A seat may still not be ready at the rank at 3am, so the safest choice is to request one, with your child’s age, when you pre book.
Heavy luggage: Ask the rank marshal for an airport van taxi, which starts at AED 25. For more than six large bags, book a larger vehicle in advance, such as a Mercedes Benz Viano V 250 (up to 7 passengers, 6 bags) or a Mercedes Benz Sprinter Van (18 to 20 passengers, 12 bags).
Wheelchair users: You can reserve a People of Determination Taxi through the app or on the toll free number 800 88088. Accessible taxis are limited in number, so book before you land. Inside the airport, Dubai Airports provides free wheelchair access, and you can arrange assistance with your airline.
Older passengers: Request airport assistance through your airline when you book your flight, and choose a car with easy entry, such as a van, for the ride.
What to Do During a Long Overnight Layover
If you are not leaving the airport, you do not need to clear immigration. DXB runs 24 hours, food and lounges stay open overnight, and paid sleep pods and an airside hotel give 2am arrivals somewhere to rest. The Dubai International Hotel sits airside in Terminal 3 with rooms sold in hour blocks, so transit guests can sleep and shower without passing immigration.
If you are entering Dubai but your hotel check in is in the afternoon, ask your hotel about early check in before you fly. Some travelers book the room from the night before so they can sleep on arrival.
Night Arrival Checklist
- Check your arrival day against metro hours (Saturday night means no train until 8am Sunday)
- Save your hotel address in English and Arabic
- Keep a bank card or some dirhams ready
- Use only the official taxi rank, a ride hailing app, or your pre booked driver
- Ignore anyone offering rides inside the terminal
- Pre book a child seat or accessible vehicle if you need one
